Vulcan, often depicted with a blacksmith's hammer is the Roman god of fire including volcanoes, deserts, metal working and the forge, and he can also be found on the top of Sheffield Town Hall! The Romans identified Vulcan with the Hephaestus of Greek mythology, and came to be considered as the manufacturer of art, arms, iron, jewellery, and armour for various gods and heroes, including the lightning bolts of Jupiter. He was also the consort of Venus.
