Frogbit Plant Description
Frogbit or Frog's Bit (Limnobium Spongia) Has small, emerald green, round to oval leaves and look great when planted in small containers and placed on shelves in your pond. Leaves float beautifully across the surface of the water. Frogbit likes cool to medium temperature and does not love hot temperatures or traveling in hot summer weather so best ordered outside of July or August.
Frogsbit is an excellent source of nutrition for most turtle species and larger koi fish. Frogbit is very easy to grow! To protect your Frogbit from koi--try our floating plant barriers.
Frogbit is illegal in California and cannot be sold or shipped there.
Frogbit Planting Instructions
Frogbit grows well in full sun to full shade. Choose either free floating or plant in small containers with the roots in loamy soil and placed with 2 inches of water over pots.
Frogbit can grow as two forms, upright if planted in soil--looks like a small waterlily, or as a floating rosette form, which most customers desire. We usually ship them as the longer plant that was in soil. To get it to change to a rosette form--simply let the plant float freely with the roots in the water, in 10 -14 days, all new leaves will form around the base of the plant and it will be a rosette-- multiplying rapidly in no time.
